Ratio 6 Brew Guide

Ratio 6 Brewer in Black on a white background for brew guide

Our first impression of the Ratio Six was that is was an aesthetically pleasing brewer. Our next thought was just how simple it is. Fill with water and coffee, and then press the brew button. That's it. Our next thought was, does it make good coffee without being able to tune any of the brewing variables? Yes... It does.

Overall, the system is very simple to use. Decide how much coffee you want, grind and dose your beans, add the appropriate amount of water, and press go. The brewing cycle includes a short preinfusion cycle (~220ml on ours), then a pause, then the main brewing cycle until the end.

EQUIPMENT:

Ratio 6 Coffee Brewer

Flat Bottom Coffee Filter

INPUTS:

80g of coffee ground on #22 on the Baratza Encore Grinder.

1300ml of fresh, clean water

BREWING STEPS:

  1. Put the coffee filter in the brew basket and rinse completely with hot water.

  2. Grind your coffee

  3. Pour 1300 grams of water into the Ratio 6 water tank.

  4. Pour the coffee grounds into the brew basket and tap to even the bed of grounds and get rid of any air pockets.

  5. Press the brew button.

  6. The lights will progress from bloom, to brew, and will indicate that the brewing cycle is complete.

  7. Will yield about four 12oz cups. Enjoy!

PRO TIPS:

The actual tuning ability for the coffee comes in the amount of coffee you dose and your grind size. For stronger brews, try adding slightly more coffee or grind a few clicks finer. Filter papers are standard 8-12 cup flat bottom filters. We recommend bleached (white) and rinsing them prior to brewing. We like to use a brew ratio of about 16:1 (water:coffee)
